There was a long weekend in Dubai so my husband and I visited Phuket, Thailand. We have never been to Thailand and unfortunately we had only 3 full days to experience all that Phuket has to offer (there is so much to see, we weren’t able to cover everything).
The first day, we were so tired from the long flight that we decided to take it slow. We ended up walking the streets by our hotel on the Patong beach. The streets are full of people (read: tourists). It’s also very different since no one in Dubai walks anywhere. It is also, obviously, very green, lots of trees around. Which was also very different compared to all the sand in Dubai.
We decided to go to the Big Buddha temple. This was one of the highlights of my trip. The temple is located on a mountain, from the top, you can see all of Phuket. The view is incredible.
Although I have been living in Dubai for the past 7 months, I have not seen the crazy heat everyone talks about whereas Phuket was really hot for me, I actually got sun burnt for the first time. The temperature was around 36-38 degrees Celsius and being outdoors for most of the day didn’t help. Since I have been back in Dubai, it has been incredibly hot (about 41 C) and its not even ‘Summer’ yet!
The best part about this visit was, the monks were praying while we were there. So I was able to go inside the temple while the prayers were going. I find other religions fascinating , so this was definitely a treat for me. I also saw wild monkeys while walking up the steps towards the temple (so cool! and scary!).
I will do another blog post on the other activities I did there. I definitely plan on going back there for another visit as 3 days were too short. The city is beautiful and there is so much more to do. I would love to go visit the different islands that are close by as well.
